IDEA lab faculty Dr. Haihua Chen and master student Komala Subramanyam Cherukuri attended the 87th Annual Meeting of the Association for Information Science and Technology, which took place in Calgary, Canada from 25-29 October, 2024.
At the conference, Dr. Chen chaired a paper session “LLMs and ChatGPT’, where two interesting papers related to “Large Language Model Multi-Agent Debate” and “ChatGPT for Systematic Reviews Search Strategies Generation” were presented.

Dr. Chen attended a panel discussion on the afternoon of Oct 27 on the topic of “Exploring the Application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in GLAM Collections”. Three subtopics were presented at the panel: 1) use cases of AI/ML technologies applied within GLAM collections, 2) findings from a systematic review of literature on AI/ML in GLAM collections, and 3) insights from semi-structured interviews with archival practitioners on their perspectives on AI/ML. At the end of the panel, the panelists together with the audience discussed the challenges and future directions of AI/ML for different scenarios and tasks in GLAM institutions.

Master student Komala presented a short paper “Are Prompts All You Need?: Chatting with ChatGPT on Disinformation Policy Understanding” and a poster “Investigating the Applications of AI in Oncology from NIH Funded Projects: Case Study of Lung Cancer and Pancreatic Cancer”.
The short paper led by Dr. Chen and collaborated with Dr. Xiaohua Zhu from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville (USA) and Dr. Shengnan Yang from Western University (Canada), addresses the rapidly emerging topic of disinformation regulatory policy as a pilot to investigate ChatGPT's potential for document analysis.
In the poster, we investigated how AI is employed in the research of lung and pancreatic cancers. The poster is the outcome of Komala course project for HINF 5506 – Applications of AI in Health in Spring 2024, under Dr. Chen’s supervision.
